RECRUITING: DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS
Affect Labs is an Edinburgh-based startup specialising in sentiment analysis. We’re looking for a couple of bright minds to help us continue making meaning from chaos.
- Full-time Developer
- Summer Intern
Position
We’re looking for a software developer to architect and build a cloud-based data aggregation and analysis engine. A close analogy would be a web crawler with artificial intelligence built in. We’ve also got room for a summer intern, either on the data processing side, or as a front-end developer.
About You
You’re an experienced developer who loves dealing with data. You know Python and Java like the back of your hand. You love working with the web and with social networks – ideally you’ve built hobby projects with, say, the Twitter API. You’re knowledgeable about databases and don’t think CouchDB is something you sit on.
You’ve worked with distributed data before and preferably have experience with EC2, S3 and Hadoop. When you think about how information flows online, the inside of your head resembles a scene from Hackers. Convergence excites you. You’ve got some background knowledge of AI and ideally you know a bit about NLP too.
As we’re a startup, it’s important that you’re a bit of a self-starter; you also need the ability to communicate. You’ll get a lot of responsibility and be a key part of the team as we expand. It should go without saying that buzzwords like ‘agile’ describe how we code.
An interest in the Edinburgh Festivals or in politics would be a nice bonus.
If data isn’t really your thing, but you’re a front-end ninja with CSS, AJAX and Photoshop skills, we’re interested in hearing from you anyway. You’d need to be able to construct good-looking mock-ups and perhaps even live pages, with both (front-end) code and design responsibility.
We also have a couple of side projects that could be done independently, using the platform of your choice – if you want to build something exciting around a very interesting data set, get in touch. We’re especially interested in iPhone developers.
To apply, please email jobs@affectlabs.com telling us why we should hire you – examples of stuff you’ve built are a great plus.
